News: No more "Xperia Z" series; confirmed by Sony

Mobile World Congress 2016, is near its end, but many good looking smartphones are already been unveiled, from Samsung Galaxy S7 to Xiaomi Mi5. The latest flagship smartphone being unveiled, packs with powerful hardware, new design and first of a kind features. Sony, is one of those company that unveiled a new line of Xperia smartphones.

Sony’s “Xperia Z” series is been popular one and packs with powerful specs, a premium design and cool features. Sony’s “Z” series starts on 2013 with the release of Xperia Z1 and to the current Z5 Premium, last year. This “Z” series of Sony is their flagship smartphone that could with high end smartphones on the market, such Samsung Galaxy series, LG G series and Apple’s iPhone.

At Mobile World Congress 2016, Sony officially confirmed that “Z” series of their smartphone will come to an end. This means that upcoming flagship of Sony; the Z6 will not be made, and the Z5 premium will be last “Z” series smartphone of Sony.


Sony finally issued an official statement on the matter and everything seems clear, but it is definitely not what many would call good news. Short and rather grim, it reads:

“The Xperia Z line has reached its culmination – Xperia X series represents a new chapter and evolution of our product strategy. Whilst the Xperia Z series was all about bringing the best of Sony’s advanced technologies to smartphones, Xperia X series is based on bringing smart, adaptive Sony user experiences across camera, battery performance and hardware / software design.”

Now, Sony’s flagship smartphone might be the “Xperia X Performance” with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor together with 4GB of RAM. A premium build with excellent camera. And this smartphone just got unveiled at the MWC 2016, few days ago.
