In 2015, Microsoft and Intel teamed up in a bid to convince device makers to bring Windows phone to budget smartphones using the Atom X3 chips. It took a while for Microsoft to support large device display and higher resolution.

The problem of Atom X3 chip is just currently supporting 3G. It may be the main reason why there is no OEM took the challenge of launching the Atom X3 chip based Windows phone.

This year should bring more powerful Atom X3 chip with 4G LTE capabilities, in which it more appealing to the known device makers. Microsoft rumors to be launching a “Surface Phone with Atom X3 chip”, but it has not been materialized yet.

The partnership of Microsoft and Intel is a success on the PC world, but they have yet found the success on the mobile arena.
